Services Overview
YAMA uses Yoga Therapy (YT) and Expressive Arts Therapy (EXAT) as creative and effective means of empowerment and healing to supplement conventional therapies. YAMA’s integrative approach covers the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of one’s life. YAMA addresses the barriers that prevent PWD/SEN from achieving their full potential. Instead of viewing disability as a problem that needs to be fixed, we focus on what a person can do, nurture their strengths, and encourage them to progress in their lives.
How Yoga Therapy Works
YAMA’s Yoga Therapy are supplemental therapeutic interventions that helps to bridge gaps where families need additional support. Yoga connects body and mind through synchronised movements, breathing practices, meditation and positive psychology. The techniques not only improve strength, mobility, and coordination, it also holistically addresses imbalances in one’s health beyond the physical body, bringing health benefits such as reduced inflammation and relief from chronic pain and stress.
YAMA’s specialised approach and skilled teaching staff means that people of all backgrounds and abilities can participate, including those with more severe physical or intellectual disabilities, people with chronic pain and illness, as well as mental health challenges.
How Expressive Arts Therapy Works
Expressive Arts Therapy has therapeutic applications which can be instrumental in treating a variety of physchological and physical disorders, supplementing traditional mental health care treatment, as it carries little to no stigma. Like yoga, Expressive Arts Therapy can help guide and promote well-being, empowering practitioners to health through something that cannot be discussed or expressed in words.
YAMA’s programmes are effective forms of non-urgent mental health support, addressing the ailing collective mental health of the city. YAMA’s registered therapists use a creative process (drawing, painting, music, and movement) to boost cognitive function, emotional resilience and self-confidence.
