Approximately 10% of Hong Kong’s population lives with a disability, special need or chronic illness. As our population begins to age, and the prevalence of chronic disease rises, more people will experience disability in their lifetimes.

Hundreds of thousand people in Hong Kong live in caged homes, wood-partitioned cubicles and subdivided flats. Over 15% live in poverty and there are over 1000 registered street sleepers and a growing number of unregistered homeless people.

61% of people in Hong Kong suffer from poor mental well-being. Anxiety and depression are the most common health issues in the city, and Hong Kong’s youth suicide rates are among one of the highest in the world. The majority do not seek professional help.
